INYO COUNTY - "LEGENDARY EXPERIENCES. LARGER THAN LIFE. Where stars shine, not streetlamps. Majestic mountains tower, not buildings. Wildlife abounds, not humans."

Inyo County is located in east-central California in the southwestern United States, on the east side of the Sierra Nevada Mountains and south of Yosemite National Park. It is home to Death Valley National Park, the largest National Park in the lower 48 states at 3.3 million acres. In a study of contrasts, it is also home to the Palisade Glacier, the largest glacier in the Sierra Nevada.

Visitors to Inyo County can enjoy a vast range of outdoor experiences, including fishing, camping, Eastern Sierra fall colors, a visit to an ancient Bristlecone pine forest, a climb to the top of Mt. Whitney, or a game of golf at the world's lowest elevation golf course in Furnace Creek.

History buffs can relive the Golden Age of Hollywood westerns in Lone Pine, where hundreds of films were shot in the beautiful Alabama Hills. Manzanar National Historic Site preserves the stories of Japanese American citizens who were incarcerated here during World War II. Death Valley is home to many reminders of our western heritage, including ghost towns and mining camps, the 20 Mule Train wagons that hauled Borax across the desert, and the 1920s-era "Scotty's Castle".

Welcome to the Eastern Sierra!

The Oasis at Death Valley (formerly Furnace Creek Resort) is a true oasis in the heart of Death Valley National Park. The resort includes the Inn at Death Valley (AAA 4 Diamond rated) and the Ranch at Death Valley spread over 180 acres of swaying palm and tamarisk trees. With its two spring-fed swimming pools, 18 hole golf course, tennis courts and other entertainment options, the resort caters to couples, families and gatherings for weddings, conferences, reunions and golf tournaments. Dining options include four distinct restaurants from a casual western style saloon to the elegant Dining Room at the Inn. Activities vary by season but include stargazing under one of the darkest skies on the planet, horseback and carriage rides, biking and hiking, and more? At 214 feet below sea level, the golf course is the lowest golf course in the world; we confidently guarantee you will play your lowest round ever!

The Inn at Death Valley was built by the Pacific Coast Borax Company and welcomed its first guests on February 1, 1927. The Inn is open from mid-October to mid-May and July and August. The Ranch at Death Valley opened in 1930 and welcomes travelers year round. Adjacent to Death Valley National Park’s Welcome Center, the resort offers the perfect vantage point to explore the beauty of a region that is virtually untouched and extraordinarily distinct. At 3.3 million acres, this is the largest National Park in the continental U.S. Our resort certainly is an “oasis in the desert”. The Automobile Club of Southern California was established in 1900 by 10 “horseless carriage” enthusiasts.

As the popularity of the automobile grew, the Auto Club quickly expanded its scope to provide travel services that helped members decide where to go once they got into their cars. The Auto Club Touring Information Bureau opened in 1911 to provide members with travel information, maps and the very first TourBooks™. And in 1958, the Auto Club established its first travel agency, called World Travel.

The Auto Club has been involved with promoting Death Valley tourism since the early 20th century, mapping the area for members and using its sign posting crew to make the valley safe for tourists to explore. According to an Associated Press article from August 1921, “All water holes and wells have been marked so they can be found without trouble either at night or day…more than a year was consumed in charting the valley and in making and erecting the signs.”
We are pleased to acknowledge the Auto Club as our Fiddler's Stage sponsor.

Sentinel Air Medical Alliance is an alliance of healthcare payors established in response to the rapid escalation of air medical transport rates. Many payors find it difficult to effectively control rates for air transport, which are known to be egregiously high in most areas of the country. The company is led by a team of professionals who have over twenty years' experience in the payor and the air medical provider segments of the healthcare industry.

We are pleased to acknowledge Sentinel Air Medical Alliance as our Coyote Howl sponsor.
